Discover the colorful world of the kurbits in this fun, weekend-long Swedish folk painting workshop inspired by the decorated farmhouses of Dalarna, Sweden. Learn to paint the iconic flowing flowers, leaves, and whimsical designs that made this folk tradition famous. Alongside painting, we will discover the history of Dalmålning and its deep connection to Swedish heritage. 

Using acrylics on canvas, you'll practice simple traditional motifs and techniques that easily translate to watercolor, markers, oils, and more. Templates are available for anyone who wants extra guidance, making this class welcoming and enjoyable for all skill levels.  

All supplies are available in class, but you are welcome to bring any favorite supplies for acrylic paints if you choose: brushes, water pan, wet-palette.  Please bring a pencil and paper for notetaking and sketching.

Class format: combination lecture, demonstration, and hands-on guidance.  Students can draw their own design on an 8” x 10” canvas, or make use of a pattern provided by the instructor.  Throughout the class the instructor will demonstrate the first steps and then round among the students to assist while they return the demonstration on their own project. 

Class fee includes all materials, fika and lunch.
