On August 29, 1922, Verna’s father Valter left the Swedish part of Finland to come to America. Valter was diagnosed with tuberculosis the day after Verna was born, and he always kept his distance to protect her. This is a photographic history of Valter’s journey. It has given Verna a new closeness to him and a new appreciation of who he was.
